Heat Embossed & Vellum Birthday Card

Hello, all!

Today I am back on my blog after almost a year. I had promised myself I will be more regular here and be more active on my social media too.  To be honest, I have done quite a bit of craft and artwork. You could see bits and pieces of it on my Instagram.

Anyway without further ado, here is a simple card I made using minimal supplies.

The yellow cardstock is trimmed and scored at 4×5 inches. The Kraft Cardstock is trimmed at 3.75×4.75 inches. I went ahead and stamped the leaves by Altenew’s Doodle Blooms stamp set on the cardstock randomly with my favorite white embossing powder from Wow! by American Krafts and Rangers Versamark.

The fuzzy cut poppy stuck on top is from the Painted Poppy stamp set by Alternew. The poppy was also stamped and heat embossed and colored using Zig Watercolor Brush pens.

Then I placed the Kraft cardstock on top of the yellow cardstock using Scotch’s double-sided foam tape. I also placed a vellum trimmed at 2.75×3.75 inches. The sentiment on vellum is stamped and embossed similarly as well.

Do check out my very first video tutorial on my Youtube channel. Please do like and subscribe if you like what you see.

Thanks!

Easy DIY Vellum Flower Party Lights | Tutorial

vellum-party-lights-11I’ve seen some really pretty vellum flower party lights in Gifts and Craft shops here in Dubai and they’ve always caught my fancy. It is only when I made one myself did I realize how easy it was to put one together.

So let us get on with it.!

To begin with, you need some wire lights. I went for these really thin ones I got from a craft shop. you could use any type.vellum-party-lights-2Apart from that you need some Vellum, a ball tool to make flowers, Crop-a-dile and some glue.  That is it!! Can you believe it?

Start off by cutting out some flowers in four different sizes. I used my Silhouette Cameo. You could use flower punches in 4 different sizes or simply cut using scissors.vellum-party-lights-3Use a ball stylus tool to gently mold and form a cup shape to each petal. If you don’t have one, you can use the rounded back of a paintbrush.vellum-party-lights-4Glue them together. I used the Glossy accent so that it dries clear and it does not see though the vellum when lit up.

Now push the front end of the bulb though the punched hole. In this case, the size of the hole was perfect for bulbs to sit in snugly.vellum-party-lights-6Finish up by covering all the bulbs with the vellum flower.vellum-party-lights-7Voila! You are done! How easy was that?!IMG_0798It looks so pretty even in the daylight that it works as a great home decor accessory.vellum-party-lights-8I urge you to try it out! I am sure you will love it!!

Tell me if you have ever tried one of these yourself. If yes, then I would love it see it. Share it with me on my Facebook, Instagram or Twitter account.

That is all from me today.

Moms don’t get sick days..

Sniffle sniffle..

The past couple of weeks have not been great for me. I got a flu a week ago and it lead to infection in my ears. It eventually lead to a bad swelling in both my ears and I have now ended up being partially deaf. I am not even kidding when I say ‘DEAF’. I mean it!! It is pathetic! To add to the misery my ENT informed yesterday that it would take a good whole month for my ears to get back to its normal self!!!

So, I have been home bound for the last few weeks. The only few times I do step out of home is for my ENT appointments or to take baby K for her evening walks.

It was during this time that one of my mommy friend on Instagram posted this image.

mom-post-getting-sick

I usually do not fall sick very often and I pray I never do. So, these are one of those rare times. So when I saw this image it got me thinking.

Being a Stay-at-home-mom I never get off days. I’ve realized, as moms we are often the last to be taken care of. When Nupie falls sick he calls up work and takes the day off to rest (which he very well deserves, I agree.) and has me to tend to him. Same goes with baby K. But what about us moms? It is just another day for us. We are so busy taking care of our loved ones and our home that we tend to overlook our illness. This thought just made me realize that we actually are the stronger sex!! At times I do not understand how and from where I get this ‘superhumaness’ in me especially when I am unwell! I guess, that is what takes to me a mother.

But yes, thank God for weekends and for having a partner like Nupie. He does make sure he eases it for me as much as he can once he is back home. I cannot thank him enough for that.

I just really hope I get better asap and get out of this pathetic state. I hate being sick!

Anyway, the good that has happened from all this is that due to all the ear pain, I have not been able to sleep which ultimately lead to finishing up a lot of pending art and craft projects.

I had started off with this Birthday card almost a month ago and just got around last week to complete it.

How cute is this Whimsy Birthday baby Girl stamp?

I’ve used Copics to color the stamped image.

Here is the inside of the card. This sentiment was written using the Silhouette Sketch Markers.

Thanks all for today!

Copics + life update

As a busy mom, I eagerly await the moments when my little one is in bed, the house is finally quiet and I get to immerse myself in creative pursuits. I agree there are some nights I get so tired by the end of the day that all I want to do is just wear my comfortable PJs, curl up and drift off to dreamland.

Over the past few months it has been quite a challenge to find the time and the mojo to make art. Eventhough mommy duties can be a bit overwhelming at times, art and craft is something that feeds my soul, so I have to and want to keep doing it.

I do try to steal few hours in the day to do what I love but my darling little daughter always manages to either grab hold of my color pencils or brushes to play with and at times ruin my work.

So, the story behind this disaster goes like this. I hand over my over enthusiastic toddler to her dad to finish up some kitchen chores and this is what I came back to. My heart just stopped beating for several seconds when I saw these in her hands. I had actually spent quite a lot of my precious time doodling those intricate flower details on to those water colored cards. *sigh*

Lessons learnt:- 1) Nothing.. absolutely no table or any platform in the house is too high for my toddler’s tiny hands anymore 2) Fathers make the worst baby-sitters. Hmph!

Anyway, without discussing anymore on it let us just get on to this pretty little card I finished just last night. Like I mentioned in my previous post, I have been trying to better my Copic skills. So here goes..

The yellow blooms used in the backgound are my favorite ones from Prima Flowers.

I think my fingers are slowly getting the hang of Copics. What do you guys think?
