Teacher Day Gift Ideas: Customized Ikea Shadow Box

I believe it is always a good time to show your love and appreciation to the great teachers who share so much love, time, effort and care into teaching and taking care of our children every day.

Not only are they an important part of our children’s lives, but they also have a huge impact on our future! We entrust the most important little people of our lives into their hands on a daily basis. To have the kind of patience, love, and kindness that it takes to be a teacher, you really have to be something special! Which is why I always love to give the teachers who teach my little girl a little something at the end of the year to let them know how much we appreciate what they do.

Today I am sharing with you a DIY shadow box that I made for one such wonderful teacher on behalf of a friend.

I used the basic 9″x9″ shadow frame from Ikea for this project.

I began by stamping some Hero Arts floral stamps on a white cardstock and coloring them using Copic markers which I later fussy cut.

So, while customizing the frame, I got a bit confused in between as to which of these would look better; the Prima premade florals or the stamped ones I made. But since I was making this frame for a teacher I decided to go with something more colorful and fun and so stuck to my original idea.

I always like to arrange and rearrange my embellishments loosely before I am fully happy with the look and then finally glue it down.

So here is the final look of the shadow box. The sketched out the poem on a plain white cardstock using the Silhouette Sketch feature on my Cameo. I also added a thin gold washi tape on the borders to add some interest.

To personalize the frame further I again used the Cameo to cut out the teacher’s name on vinyl and stuck it on to the outer glass of the frame.

This little birdie in one of my favorite elements on the frame.

And voila! There you have it! a personalized/customized shadow box frame for a lovely teacher ready to be wrapped up and given.

I have more shadow box projects coming up here very soon so do visit again to check them out.

Thank you!

Video: Customized ‘Explosion’ box card!

Today I am going to share with you a card that ‘explodes’ when you remove the lid.

Explosion Box Cards are probably not for somebody who is a beginner at paper crafting considering the amount of measuring and techniques that goes with it. But the end result will definitely be worth the added effort, especially if you’re looking to create a card for an extra special occasion. These cards contain a lot of extra space that can be utilized for photos and messages. They also have a large open space in the very center that is big enough to hold a gift, some chocolates or a 3D embellishment. It’s definitely worth giving a try.

The box I made today was customized for someone who wanted to gift it to her fiance. So she told me her choice of colors and exactly how she wanted the card to be like.

Take a look.

The flowers used here as embellishments were handmade as well. The doily was cut using the Cameo.

A closer look at how it looks once opened.

This heart slider panel is what I like the most about this explosion box. You can see how it works in the video link attached below.

All these cutouts in silver were cut using the Cameo.

I have also attached a video link here so you can take a closer look at how this explosion box works.

Heat Embossed & Vellum Birthday Card

Hello, all!

Today I am back on my blog after almost a year. I had promised myself I will be more regular here and be more active on my social media too.  To be honest, I have done quite a bit of craft and artwork. You could see bits and pieces of it on my Instagram.

Anyway without further ado, here is a simple card I made using minimal supplies.

The yellow cardstock is trimmed and scored at 4×5 inches. The Kraft Cardstock is trimmed at 3.75×4.75 inches. I went ahead and stamped the leaves by Altenew’s Doodle Blooms stamp set on the cardstock randomly with my favorite white embossing powder from Wow! by American Krafts and Rangers Versamark.

The fuzzy cut poppy stuck on top is from the Painted Poppy stamp set by Alternew. The poppy was also stamped and heat embossed and colored using Zig Watercolor Brush pens.

Then I placed the Kraft cardstock on top of the yellow cardstock using Scotch’s double-sided foam tape. I also placed a vellum trimmed at 2.75×3.75 inches. The sentiment on vellum is stamped and embossed similarly as well.

Do check out my very first video tutorial on my Youtube channel. Please do like and subscribe if you like what you see.

Thanks!

Easy DIY Vellum Flower Party Lights | Tutorial

vellum-party-lights-11I’ve seen some really pretty vellum flower party lights in Gifts and Craft shops here in Dubai and they’ve always caught my fancy. It is only when I made one myself did I realize how easy it was to put one together.

So let us get on with it.!

To begin with, you need some wire lights. I went for these really thin ones I got from a craft shop. you could use any type.vellum-party-lights-2Apart from that you need some Vellum, a ball tool to make flowers, Crop-a-dile and some glue.  That is it!! Can you believe it?

Start off by cutting out some flowers in four different sizes. I used my Silhouette Cameo. You could use flower punches in 4 different sizes or simply cut using scissors.vellum-party-lights-3Use a ball stylus tool to gently mold and form a cup shape to each petal. If you don’t have one, you can use the rounded back of a paintbrush.vellum-party-lights-4Glue them together. I used the Glossy accent so that it dries clear and it does not see though the vellum when lit up.

Now push the front end of the bulb though the punched hole. In this case, the size of the hole was perfect for bulbs to sit in snugly.vellum-party-lights-6Finish up by covering all the bulbs with the vellum flower.vellum-party-lights-7Voila! You are done! How easy was that?!IMG_0798It looks so pretty even in the daylight that it works as a great home decor accessory.vellum-party-lights-8I urge you to try it out! I am sure you will love it!!

Tell me if you have ever tried one of these yourself. If yes, then I would love it see it. Share it with me on my Facebook, Instagram or Twitter account.

That is all from me today.
