Moms don’t get sick days..

Sniffle sniffle..

The past couple of weeks have not been great for me. I got a flu a week ago and it lead to infection in my ears. It eventually lead to a bad swelling in both my ears and I have now ended up being partially deaf. I am not even kidding when I say ‘DEAF’. I mean it!! It is pathetic! To add to the misery my ENT informed yesterday that it would take a good whole month for my ears to get back to its normal self!!!

So, I have been home bound for the last few weeks. The only few times I do step out of home is for my ENT appointments or to take baby K for her evening walks.

It was during this time that one of my mommy friend on Instagram posted this image.

mom-post-getting-sick

I usually do not fall sick very often and I pray I never do. So, these are one of those rare times. So when I saw this image it got me thinking.

Being a Stay-at-home-mom I never get off days. I’ve realized, as moms we are often the last to be taken care of. When Nupie falls sick he calls up work and takes the day off to rest (which he very well deserves, I agree.) and has me to tend to him. Same goes with baby K. But what about us moms? It is just another day for us. We are so busy taking care of our loved ones and our home that we tend to overlook our illness. This thought just made me realize that we actually are the stronger sex!! At times I do not understand how and from where I get this ‘superhumaness’ in me especially when I am unwell! I guess, that is what takes to me a mother.

But yes, thank God for weekends and for having a partner like Nupie. He does make sure he eases it for me as much as he can once he is back home. I cannot thank him enough for that.

I just really hope I get better asap and get out of this pathetic state. I hate being sick!

Anyway, the good that has happened from all this is that due to all the ear pain, I have not been able to sleep which ultimately lead to finishing up a lot of pending art and craft projects.

I had started off with this Birthday card almost a month ago and just got around last week to complete it.

How cute is this Whimsy Birthday baby Girl stamp?

I’ve used Copics to color the stamped image.

Here is the inside of the card. This sentiment was written using the Silhouette Sketch Markers.

Thanks all for today!

Copics coloring

It is after 7 whole months that I have logged into my blog!

Ashamed? Naah! Missed blogging? Not really! But what I really missed was showcasing my ‘creativity’ to all you friends out here. I love the comments flowing in my comment box. I look forward to when you appreciate my work or even otherwise. I think it just motivates me to get better with time.

So, what has changed in these seven months?

  • Turned 30! YAY!
  • Discovered a pretty decent cook in me. (Watchout this space as I do plan to share some of my own healthy recipes here!)
  • Traveled
  • Bought some Copics!!!!!
  • Made a couple of new friends.

and last but definitely not the least is that I have got into living a healthier lifestyle and kicked out a good 12 kgs out of my body!!!

Yes, I do have a few more to lose to reach my ideal weight but the fact that I’ve lost so much makes me want to jump up with joy! I feel lighter and healthier from within. Life is good!

Unfortunately, what I have not been successful in is getting Nupie (my husband) motivated to join in with me in the weight loss journey. No amount of motivational testimonials, dietitian advises or emotional torture has made him put his foot in the gym. *sigh* Patience is the key..

As far as my arts and craft go, I honestly haven’t been doing much apart from arranging and reorganizing my little craft room.

I had decided that I would craft a WOW comeback project after the time off. But that did not work out either. Anyway, I leave you with a couple of cards I made while experimenting with my copics. I am still very new with Copics so I am open to any sort of criticism or tips and advises.

I have used the Negative space technique here. I really liked how it turned out but I think I still have a lot to learn when it comes to Copic markers.

What do you guys think?

Quick and easy cards

Hello and welcome!

I am absolutely excited to announcing the launch of PPS’s new website! It is an absolute fun and easy place to explore. if you have not checked it out yet then you should!!

So I made some cards using  the supplies PPS sent me this month. I love how my kit this month included a lot of embellishments!

This is the first card I made using them.

IMG_8402
I have used my beautiful Martha Stewart Lattice punch here around the card outside the green pattern paper. Whereas for the die cut  used in the inside was cut using my Cameo. The blue glitter Alphas are my favorite from the PPS store and can just not have enough of it!

How cute are those salt and pepper shaker stamps from the Lawn Fawn in Love n Breakfast!! Here is a closer look at them!

IMG_8415

The stamps used for this third card is from the same stamp set as well! All the pattern paper that I have used for the cards here are from the same paper pad; Lemon Lush from Studio Calico

I have distressed the edges of the card slightly here. The chevron pattern used on the tag is again cut using my beloved Silhouette Cameo. I added some Blue and Diamond stickles too on some of them to add some interest. The sentiment is heat embossed using some white embossing powder on vellum. The vellum was colored red using a red distress marker.

A closer look at the cute stamped image. I colored them in using my distress markers.

I hope my cards inspire you to enter PPS’s challenge this month!!

I also quickly wanted to share this altered journal I made the other day. Couple of weeks ago, I was given an opportunity to guest post for my dear friend Neelu’s blog and this is what I ended up making. If you are interested in seeing a full post including a tutorial on how to make this then make sure you check it out on her blog.

See you next time!

Distress Stain–Tutorial

Good Morning, friends..

I am here to talk about Distress Stains. Distress Strains are fluid water based dyes for papers and other porus surfaces. They can be used in multiple ways. Use them directly top down on by pressing the nylon dabber on to the surface to create a beautiful background… It gives a very water color like effect on paper.

Another way of playing with them is by pouring some of the ink into a spray bottle and use as a mist. You can also dilute it with water to give it a lighter effect..

Use them to color in ribbons, laces, paper flowers and other such embellishments.. I even tried using them on canvas once and it worked just perfect..

Here is what I quickly put together using some of my distress stains..

Hope you enjoy the tutorial..

Step 1

I started off by heat embossing some clear embossing powder directly on to the Hero Hues folded card in Snow
Step 2:

I decided to color up my card with three different Distress Stains.. Picket Fence, Peacock Feathers and Broken China. You can either apply them by rubbing the nylon dabber directly on to the card.. or use your fingers to gently dab them like I did in the picture below. I wanted a very uneven water-color like effect to my background which is why I decided to use my fingers.

Step 3: I cut a smaller piece of watercolor paper and this time I rubbed all the three color directly on to the paper and colored it up.. I even stained a piece of sheer white ribbon with Broke China Distress Stain

Step 4: I then stamped and cut some cute images on a water color paper to ink them with some distress stains..

Picket Fence is a very useful stain, according to me.. I use it to mix with other colors to create different shades..

Like here.. I mixed it with Barn Door Distress Stain to create a light pink color. Similarly I mixed Barn Door, Picket Fence and Crushed Olive stains together to get shades of orange.. And that is what I used to color these flowers up.. 🙂 How cool is that?!

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial. Oh! yes.. the sentiment was cut using my Silhouette Cameo.. 🙂
Thank You!!
Love,
Shruti
